6 Easy Steps

Step 1:

Chose one space to organize. The closet, shed, garage, kitchen cupboards, drawers, OR perhaps the pantry needs your attention.

Step 2:

Empty the space completely. Not even a toothpick, a t-shirt, a can of paint or a post-it should remain in this area.

Step 3:

Gussy up the empty space to the best of your ability. Scrub, paint, build shelving, remove old wallpaper or replace flooring. Plan your budget and time to do what you can to put this area back to pretty efficiency.

Step 4:

Sort through the stuff originally taken out of this space with this question in mind:

        What is this space for?

Follow these rules when choosing what to keep and what to discard:
  • If it hasn’t been used or thought of in a year, get rid of it.
  • If you’re not sure weather to keep it or not, get rid of it.
  • If it is not used in any way toward the purpose of the space, get rid of it         (or put it where it goes).

Step 5:

List the good things you don’t need online. Have a garage sale. Donate. (Ab)use the garbage bin and shredder.

Step 6:

Organize the remaining stuff in the fresh, clean, empty space. Treat yourself to an awesome new storage solution and think about how you’ll use this area as you restock your favorite things.
